Here’s everything you need to know about K-beauty.

THE BEAUTY CAPTIAL OF THE WORLD

It’s not an overstatement to say that Korean culture is obsessed with beauty. South Korean men spend more on skincare products than men in any other country. Pretty cray, right? But this beauty industry is especially obsessed with skin looking on point without makeup, using technological innovations. The ingredients are often strange and the packaging is just as quirky. Some K-beauty lipsticks even have flowers embalmed inside them!

SO, WTF IS KB?

South Korea as a country has long been obsessed with skincare thanks to their pursuit of flawless, glass-like skin, which is where K-beauty (aka Korean beauty) was born. This industry doesn’t muck around when it comes to adoring skincare and many beauty treatments use at least 10 or more products, which are usually filled with ingredients like snail slime, egg yolks, ginseng and honey.

THE BEST (AND WEIRDEST) BUYS

THE SHEET MASK

Sheet masks landed on our shores a few years ago and they’ve blown up! And we don’t think it’s a coincidence Lara Jean Covey and Pete Kavinsky got together right after she put on a Korean face mask. #justsaying. If you haven’t used one before, YOU NEED TO BOO because they are legit life-changing.

Choose a mask to suit your skin concern – it could be to treat dryness, redness or brightening, etc – and leave it on for 15 mins while you kick back and watch some Netflix. Hello, self-care! And babes like Chrissy Teigen and Maisie Williams swear by these for vibrant skin, so you know they’re amaze.

BB CREAM

While BB cream might not seem too exciting these days, we actually owe this genius product to K-beauty – well, BB cream was originally created in Germany but the South Koreans really perfected it. This sheer product is perfect for building coverage to give you a radiant glow while also correcting skin texture but without the heaviness of foundation. Plus, BB creams usually contain SPF, which Koreans use religiously to keep their complexions free of sun damage.

THE BUBBLE MASK

You’ve probs seen a few bubble masks during your daily Insta scrolls – Lucy Hale loves them! – and you have to admit that they look pretty damn kooky. Like, who thought that a bubbly, grey facemask would be cute?!

You apply the mask to your face and leave it for five mins or until the bubbles have formed. Sounds weird, but it’s super effective!

SNAIL SLIME

We know what you’re thinking: ick! The thought of applying snail slime onto your face is just flat out gross. But, lots of K-beauty products include the slime because it helps to restore hydration
to your skin and reduce the appearance of acne scars. Not all products will tell you because the ick factor is high but
if it works, it works!
