SPF minus the break outs.

We may love breaking the rules and getting creative when it comes to our beauty looks (Euphoria makeup all day, every day) but our skincare routines are a totally different playing field.

And by that we mean there are some very clear mantras that should not be broken, number one being: SPF.

If you’re pulling an Addison Rae and arriving late to the sunscreen-party, listen up: SPF in your morning skincare routine is non-negotiable.

The most obvious reason for adding an SPF is ageing, duh. It may not feel like a concern this minute, but what you do now will make a MAJOR difference later in life.

Adding a sunscreen as your final step in the AM also makes the products you use beforehand more effective as well as preventing pigmentation and keeping your skin tone even.

If you’re feeling reluctant to add an SPF to your daily routine, you’re not alone.

Traditionally sunscreens have been thick, oily and can leave white residue on the skin, all of which are huge turnoffs.

BUT, formulas have come a long way in recent years, particularly for those of us with oily and acne prone skin who have had horrific SPF-induced breakouts in the past.

We’ve rounded up the best sunscreens for our acne-prone people out there, below.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Ultra Light Fluid 50+ $29.95 from AdoreBeauty

Legendary French pharmacy brand La Roche-Posay is famous for their massive range of SPF products, including sunscreens, tinted fluids, tinted BB creams and their anti-shine/matte range.

This Anthelios Xl fluid is the brand’s signature sunscreen. It doesn’t make you greasy or leave a white cast all over the skin.

While it seems a bit oily when you first apply, after about 30 seconds it completely sinks into the skin to create a matte-ish look.

We’re obsessed with the ENTIRE Ultra Violette range, which really has made skincare and SPF one and the same.

Their hero product is the Queen Screen, a serum-like solution that isn’t greasy or thick. It’s a pleasure to use and the cute blue and pink bottle makes you want to wear sunscreen everyday.

Ultra Violette Clean Screen SPF30 Skinscreen, $47 from AdoreBeauty, Sephora or The Iconic

We’re not quite finished waxing lyrical about Ultra Violette. If you find your skin is heavily acne-prone rather than a few problematic pimples, Clean Screen is the option for you.

The lightweight and mattifying gel texture is ideal for an easily reddened complexion, and minimises the risk of irritation.
