Episode 12 taught us this: Clifford Blossom shot his son, Jason, in the head. In cold blood. Ouch.
Also, the Coopers used to be Blossoms.
When Grandpappy Blossom murdered Grandpappy Cooper (his brother), the family cut ties and became Coopers. This means that Polly and Jason are cousins, which explains why Hal Cooper was disgusted with his daughter, but it's a vital piece of information in regards to their past.
We also learnt that Clifford, whether or not he did it himself, dies. He is hung in the barn which holds his 'empire' - being maple syurp. But that scene also shows that one of the barrels he used to hang himself, was filled with drugs.
So, with this information, one perceptive Reddit user @SongMinho, came up with an EPIC theory that explains a lot. Especially how Veronica's father, Hiram Lodge is involved in the entire thing.
"The Blossoms have been making regular payments to the Lodges for the past 75 years, up until the point Hiram was sent to jail," the theory states.
"According to my wikipedia research in the COMICS, Lodge Industries bought out the Blossom Corporation because they were bankrupt."
NOW, lets rewind to the great drama that happened between Grandpa Blossom and Cooper.
Together, they may have started in the maple syrup business together, as brothers. We don't know exactly what happened, but we can assume the company didn't go as well as they thought, maybe even to bankruptcy. Here comes Granfather Lodge - Hiram's ancestor.
He makes a deal with the Blossom brothers to use their maple syrup business as a front for a drug corporation.
Grandfather Blossom, being the twisted one, was all for it. Grandfather Cooper had more of a moral compass, and wasn't keen on the drug business.
This leads to Grandfather Blossom murdering his own brother for the success of the business. The families cut ties, and become the Coopers.
Now, the Blossoms and Lodge's are in business together.
Fast forward 75 years, and Clifford Blossom has been "grooming" his son Jason to take over the family business, and tells him the secret. Remember how Clifford reveals to Cheryl that Jason didn't have the "stomach" for it?
No maple syrup business can be that dirty...Note how how Cheryl's mother Penelope dramatically shows her the maple barn, saying it was the problem? She wasn't referring to maple syrup, but what was inside the barrels, which, at the end of the episode we find out is drugs.
Jason doesn't want anything to do with it, and he tells his father that.
"At the same time, Jason finds out Polly is pregnant with his baby and he sees this as his big chance to start a brand new life... He decides he will do this ONE TIME deal with the Serpents and fake his death."
Meanwhile, we're sure Clifford is fed up with being owned by the Lodge family. He has enough "dirt" on Hiram to send him to jail (which Archie discovers when he overhears Clifford talking).
"Hiram is livid and orders the Serpents to kidnap Jason after he gets wind of Jason's plans," (remember FP does this). "His plan was to use Jason as leverage to not only get himself out of jail, but to exert his power again over the drug running business.
"But what he didn't count on was Clifford offing his own son. So now Jason is dead, Clifford is dead and about to be exposed for his drug running and Hiram is coming home."
Maybe Jason even threatened to expose Clifford if he tried to stop him from leaving, which is why he killed him...
