We've been obsessed with seeing this film ever since Zac posted a photo dressed as one of America's worst ever serial killers - and the likeness is seriously creepy.
But after viewing the trailer, people are pissed and think it portays Bundy - a convicted criminal who killed over 30 women - as some sort of sexy, misunderstood family guy.
People were quick to comment, saying things like: "Love Zac Efron and he looks like he's doing a good job here but I almost feel like they're trying to make this film something fun and making Ted Bundy seem misunderstood," one viewer said.
"He murdered dozens of innocent young women. That shouldn't be glorified or made light of. I know this is the first trailer but the music and the way it was cut makes the movie seem like we're gonna watch a nice guy named Ted who just, whoops, kills people, be a misunderstood good guy who loves his family."
But other people were quick to point out that the story is told from the perspective of Liz Kloepfer (played by Lily Collins), who dated Bundy at the time he was murdering women in the 1970's, and had no idea what he was really doing.
The director, Joe Berlinger, said the idea is to put people in the shoes of Bundy's loved ones, who had no idea the charming lawyer was actually a sociopath going on murdering sprees in his free time!
“I made the conscious decision to not really show any murder or any criminality on Bundy’s part because the whole movie is experienced through the POV of the people who loved him, especially his longtime girlfriend,” Berlinger told Thrillist.
He even said that was part of the reason Zac was cast, because he was charming like Ted.
Either way, we CANNOT WAIT to see it.
