'I’ve done it really hard since leaving school. I’ve worked away as a FIFO and it sort of stems from that,' Sam told WHO back in June, after admitting his mental health had taken a beating since taking part in the social experiment.
'Once the show happened and all the poor choices on my form... Everything came crumbling down.'
Luckily for Sam, he had his family – who live in Byron Bay – to lean on.
'My family got into my head and said, "You need to see someone."'
That's when he got professional help. 'There was a time that I didn’t feel like a man… It was a bit embarrassing,' he revealed.
'I was having days I couldn’t get up and train. I’ve never been in that position where I literally couldn’t function – I just couldn’t figure out how.'
A professional prescribed Sam medication which he says has helped him get his life back together. 'I needed something to get me functioning again,' he explained.
