The virus first appeared in 2016. It's called WhatsApp Gold and encourages you to download a 'new' version of the software through a random link.
This is exactly how hackers get into your DMs.
In 2016, the app gold promoted new features like video chat, the ability to send 100 pictures at once, and a new way to delete messages.
It ruined a lot of phones, and now, it's BACK!
Users are currently sharing the following message through WhatsApp: "If you know anyone using WhatsApp you might pass on this. An IT colleague has advised that a video comes out from WhatsApp called martinelli do not open it, it hacks your phone and nothing will fix it. Spread the word."
Just remember - WhatsApp updates ONLY come through the official Android and IOS platforms, definitely not a forwarded message from someone else.
