You're probz used to hearing about phone scams happening via strange texts or dodgy pop-ups on your phone, but a new scam is doing the rounds and it's friggen scary.
The scam works by calling you up and asking, “Can you hear me?”
Then when you respond saying "yes", the scammers record your voice and use it to authorise payments or hack into your bank accounts using voice recognition.
Yep, it's that easy!
The scam started off in the U.S. and U.K. and has made it's way down to Australia, with police warning the public to stay alert.
Queensland Police Service recommend that anyone who has fallen victim to this scam should call their bank on the ASAP to double check that no shady business has gone down.
And for everyone else, if you receive a call saying "can you hear me?"
HANG UP IMMEDIATELY!
