Veiny Breasts Are Normal, The Doctor Says So

All your questions have been answered. - by Dolly Doctor
  • 03 Aug 2021

Have you ever looked at your breasts and thought, are these veins normal? You're not alone.

Considering that discussion of the female anatomy has been historically taboo, and that we're so often subjected to one particular body type in the media, it can be hard to know what's normal when it comes to our bodies.

Well don't worry, as your pseudo big sister, we're here to help and calm your anxieties.

Before you frantically start googling symptoms, it's important to remember that all breasts are not the same. And so just because yours might look a little different to a friend, or partner, or influencer, there is probably nothing to be worried about.

Monitoring any changes in your breasts over time and performing regular checks are, however, important. If you're really worried, speaking to a GP is your safest option.

If you've clicked on this article because you're concerned about the veins in your breasts, then you're not alone. A reader reached out to Dolly Doctor with the same concern. The doctor then shed some light on what it means to have these type of breasts.

Here's what Dolly Doctor has to say about veiny breasts.

Dear DOLLY Dr,

I have this vein on the top of my breast and it wasn't there two months ago. It doesn’t hurt or anything, I'm just worried it could be something like breast cancer. Please help me, I don't want to go to the doctor or anything.

Here's what Dolly Doctor has to say...

"As your breasts grow in size during puberty, so do the veins and other blood vessels and nerves around them. If you have fair skin, veins can appear more visible as well.

"As long as you are sure it's a vein, and it is not causing any discomfort, it's nothing to worry about - it's certainly very unlikely that it's any sort of breast tumour or cancer.

"It's natural for many teenagers not to want to go to the doctor, especially to discuss personal issues and "private" body parts. However, if you really are worried then there's nothing better than getting a check up and the reassurance you're looking for.

"Doctors are very used to discussing and examining sensitive areas and can see you confidentially. On the other hand, why don't you start by telling your mum what you've just told me, it's very likely that she'll be able to give you the reassurance you need."
