But this dedicated queen got herself $15 worth of purple tulle, an old strapless dress, a broken sewing machine and got to #werk.
Shami told Buzzfeed News that, "I didn't really have an idea of what the dress was going to look like. I was worried it wasn't going to be finished."
She continued working on it the next day... like THE day of prom.
"I think it took me about five hours, because at a point my machine broke, so I started hand sewing."
NOW LOOK HOW IT TURNED OUT...
It is stunning.
She even kept her newfound fans updated through the night, informing them that she had to cut the bottom off halfway through prom.
Shami actually designs clothes, and is stoked with the response she's gotten. She admitted that it "warms [her] heart" and she is now wanting to work on her very own label, which "doesn't get much attention."
We think that may change now girl.
"Seeing that people like what I do makes me want to continue," she said.
You just won prom. Own it.
