But, that wasn't exactly the case.
Now that season 2 has been confirmed, show runner Brian Yorkey has revealed in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly that the ENTIRE cast were going to be replaced.
WHAT?
"When we sold the show, there were two ways we thought the show could continue." He began.
"One way was continuing to follow these characters who really have been through tremendous trauma, all of them in some part coping with the trauma of Hannah's death and the aftermath. [But] when we originally pitched it, there was another version, which was an anthology version where, in sort of True Detective mode, every year you star with a new 13 reasons."
Woah. We are not okay with that.
The season ended with so many questions left unanswered, and so many characters yet to be explored further, so we don't think this would have been the right decision, and luckily, it isn't.
He continued, explaining that, "It became very apparent to me, somewhere in the middle of the season, that I wasn't going to be done with these characters after the first season, that I would want to know more and I want to follow them."
Amen.
Bring on season 2!
