It's hard to believe but pretty soon every single question we've EVER had will be answered when Pretty Little Liars wraps up next month.
So it only makes sense that we go back to where it all began—the PLL book series by Sara Shepard. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Sara revealed where she got the idea for the complicated af story that's ruled our lives for the past seven years... and it's SO messed up!
"I knew I wanted to write a mystery story that had something to do with stalkers," she dished. "There was this new thing on phones: text messaging. Social media was just starting to come out too. So the idea of an A [an anonymous, all-knowing, stalker-slash-villain] came from there."
Sara went on to explain that she was actually inspired by her neighbour who had been abducted as a teenage girl!
"I had a neighbour growing up, a woman my mom’s age, who’d been kidnapped when she was a teenager," she said. "I think my mum was fascinated [by kidnappings]. She was always coming to me to whisper, "Did you know [the neighbour] was kidnapped when she was young?"
Um, that's a little creepy. Anyway, this whole kidnapping thing even followed her when she moved to another city.
"Then I moved to Philly and had another friend who had also been kidnapped [as a child], and she never really talked about it. So I was always afraid of being kidnapped. I remember thinking, 'What happens when somebody takes you? What happens next?'"
And the rest is history. No wonder she ended up writing a story about it, she literally couldn't get away from it!
