And if you're not up to date, look away because this page contains huge spoilers.
Don't say we didn't warn you.
To quickly recap, the series ended with the most heartbreaking finale of all time, to the point where we were had to google if it were possible to get dehydrated from over crying.
Basically, Klaus died, Elijah died, our soul died etc, etc, etc.
Although he did it for the greater good - to get rid of dark magic forever - we couldn't help but feel there must've be a better way?!
Showrunner Julie Plec admitted the show originally had a different ending mapped out entirely, one where Klaus and Caroline end up together.
“Early on if you would’ve asked me, ‘Where does Klaus go when this is all over?’ I’d say, ‘He goes to Paris with Caroline Forbes,’” she said.
However, a spanner was thrown into the works when Caroline married Stefan.
“This is the right way to have honoured Stefan,” she said.
“Because once Caroline and Stefan found love and got married and she lost him, it never really felt right to have Caroline move past Stefan’s memory to go travel the world for all eternity with Klaus Mikaelson, as much as they have a connection and a powerful bond. I really felt like Stefan’s memory was important to protect.”
She added: “I never understood it, but I love that there’s such a dedication to this Caroline and Klaus love story. It just was a natural thing, knowing that The Originals was coming to an end, to really give the fans what they wanted. I think they deserved to see an element of that chapter coming to a close. I don’t know if everyone will be satisfied, but I think the majority will be pretty happy with the series finale.”
We can't speak for everyone when we say this but we feel like it's going to take a long time for us to get over it.
