Deadline first reported about the show's cancellation, confirming that, "Netflix, which goes straight-to-series on all of its shows, examines viewing (and awards recognition) vs. cost for each show when making a renewal decision."
Unfortunately, the show ended with a major cliffhanger, where we see flash-forwards of the characters performing their free dance. So, we are left wondering if they made Nationals or not!
The show writers released a statement on Twitter after the show's cancellation:
"Hey, everyone. I’m sure you’ve seen the news — we’ve been cancelled. We’re of course upset because we had so many stories to tell for our badass characters. Thank you so much for watching and being a part of our community. We truly appreciate each and every one of you."
Kaya Scodelario starred in the show.
