At the end of episode eight, Jughead shares with Betty (Lili Reinhart) what he found out about the Baxter Brothers mystery, which leads Betty to urge him to transfer back to Riverdale High considering all the ~danger~.
Jughead refuses, saying: "I can't. We're so close to this. I can feel it."
"Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of," Betty responds.
Then there's a shot of Betty, Archie and Veronica in a police lineup, where they are named as "the kids we saw kill Jughead."
Some people think this could mean that Betty, Veronica, and Archie killed their best friend Jugheas, but others aren't so convicned that Cole Spruse has been killed off...and here's why.
Firstly - it seems incredibly unlikely that any production would kill off one of their stars (and most beloved characters) in such a way that wasn't a big grand statement. While it's certainly been done before (looking at you Game of Thrones), to make Cole's departure from the show a mid-season cliff hanger would be an odd move.
Secondly - Cole's IMDB states that he has zero projects coming up. So while (again) it is possible he's leaving, we know it's not for a movie role.
There is also a wild fan theory that suggests Dylan Sprouse will be making a cameo on Riverdale, as Jughead's twin.
Riverdale fan Kaylee M explains how when Gladys was pregnant with Jughead she had twins, but didn't tell anyone: "At the birth, FP was too drunk to remember anything, so when Gladys gave birth to Jughead and his 'twin,' she just gave the twin away."
Now if this theory turns out being correct and Jughead has a twin, the obvious choice for someone to play Cole's twin would be his actual twin Dylan.
What's more, fans who just don't believe Jughead could really be going out in this low-key sort of fashion believe that the body that Betty identifies in the morgue is actually Jugheads twin.
This would give us an explanation as to how Jughead could be alive if Betty identified 'Jughead'.
TBH, the theory fits.
We guess we'll just have to wait to find out!
