In a new cover interview with tmrw magazine, Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall came for the haters who complain that they sing about sex.
They were asked about the risqué lyrics in their new album Glory Days, and Jade responded, "We're women who embrace our own sexuality. ... If men are allowed to rap about it, then women are allowed to sing about it."
Queen.
"I think we’re maturing as women, our music isn’t going to be bubblegum forever, it is getting a bit more sexy," Perrie explained, adding, "We're never like 'yeah give it to me!' We'd never do an album just about sex, or an album just about dancing with a guy in a club. We'd never ever do that, we just touch on a subject — pardon the pun."
It isn't the first time the girls have had to defend themselves against similar criticism, even calling out double-standards in an interview with The Sun last year.
"When a guy has his top off on stage everyone is like ‘woop’ but when a girl does it its not appropriate. I think that’s bull," said Jade. Jesy Nelson added, "I think it’s lovely that were confident within ourselves, and if you’ve got a problem, don’t watch us."
AMEN SISTERS.
