Australian's own Katherine Langford was the star of Netflix's hit show, 13 Reasons Why, and her explosive performance has rightfully gotten her nominated for a Golden Globe.
The actress is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama, and people aren't happy about it, as Entertainment Weekly reports.
So why the hate? Well it has nothing to do with her as a person, or her acting. It has everything to do with the fact that some people are still concerned with the show gaining so much attention, due to its sensitive storyline.
The controversial series that is co-executive produced by Selena Gomez gained a lot of criticism when it aired, as people believe that it depicts "triggering" and "unnecessary" depictions of mental illness.
However others point out that the show has brought attention to a serious topic that needs to be talked about, and Katherine has previously defended the show, saying, "The show may not necessarily be the change, but if it can be the instigator for that kind of discussion, then that’s where I find that it’s helpful."
But critics aren't convinced.
Others are even pointing out the lack of diversity in the nominations.
And of course, there are people who are defending Katherine, and her nomination.
After Katherine was nominated for the GG, she said in a statement, "Words can not express my sheer excitement and gratitude for being nominated. Most of all, my sincere hope is that the recognition continues to shine a light on so many of the important life issues and struggles we portray in 13 Reasons Why. I’m forever grateful to have been given this opportunity and will continue to work hard to bring dignity, respect, and grace to such a powerful character."
