ICYMI, Sheppard are having a major moment right now.
Since the success of their smash hit song Geronimo, the six-piece Brisbane band, which includes siblings Amy, Emma and George Sheppard, have been touring the world, even appearing on Ellen and The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.
Now the band are back in Australia to promote their new album, Watching the Sky, so we sat down with Amy and Emma who told us all about their new music and life on the road.
‘This is the first time we’ve collaborated on any songs, because we wrote Bombs Away all by ourselves, so our management suggested we head over to LA to write with some of the best writers in the industry,’ Amy said.
‘We were really apprehensive to do it at first, but we’re so glad we did because it helped open our eyes and ears to a whole bunch of other sounds and helped us grow as writers as well.’
Reflecting on some of their best moments, Amy and Emma say one of the highlights was performing at Rock in Rio right before Sam Smith and Rihanna.
‘It’s crazy when you write a song, and then these people are all singing it back to you and know all the words,’ Amy said.
But the girls admit that being on the road is not as glam as it seems.
‘It’s really difficult, because you get up on stage and it’s great for an hour, but then you’re loading stuff into the van and getting to the airport or getting to the hotel, living out of a suitcase. There’s six of us plus all the equipment, so it takes forever!,’ Emma said.
We also had some fun, playing a game of ‘Would You Rather?’ with the girls, asking them some truly weird questions like ‘would you rather eat poo that tastes like a cookie, or a cookie that tastes like poo?’ and ‘would you rather only be able to sing, or only be able to whisper?’
