Twitter has suspended your fave funny accounts for stealing memes

You're gonna have to get your LOLs elsewhere.

No doubt one of the best aspects of social media is all the hilar accounts that fill our feeds with side-splittingly funny memes and have us LOLing for days.

But the dark side of the meme culture is that some famous accounts have gained popularity by ripping off funnies from other pages, and Twitter has had enough!

BuzzFeed News reports that a slew of meme accounts with major followings have been suspended for stealing memes including @dory, @GirlPosts, and @SoDamnTrue.

Not only were these accounts thieving from others, they were also guilty of ‘tweetdecking’, which is basically when Twitter users sell retweets within secret Tweetdeck groups, commonly referred to as ‘decks’. This is a violation of Twitter’s spam policy which states that users  cannot “sell, purchase, or attempt to artificially inflate account interactions.”

Twitter alluded to their crack down on scammers in a blog post last month.

“One of the most common spam violations we see is the use of multiple accounts and the Twitter developer platform to attempt to artificially amplify or inflate the prominence of certain Tweets,” the official Twitter peeps wrote.

“To be clear: Twitter prohibits any attempt to use automation for the purposes of posting or disseminating spam, and such behaviour may result in enforcement action.”
