The feud between Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun rages on, as the artist manager released a brand-new album of hers that she recorded when she was younger, without her permission.
Fans were delighted when they saw that a brand-new Tay-Tay album was coming… but it was news to Taylor.
In an Instagram Story, the singer revealed that she was never told her album was being made public, or that her old record label was hiding it from her.
“I want to thank my fans for making me aware that my former record label is putting out an ‘album’ of live performances of mine tonight,” Taylor wrote. “This recording is from a 2008 radio show performance I did when I was 18. Big Machine has listed the date as a 2017 release, but they’re actually releasing it tonight at midnight.”
“I’m always honest with you guys about this stuff so I just wanted to tell you that this release is not approved by me. It looks to me like Scooter Braun and his financial backers, 23 Capital, Alex Soros and the Sorors family, and The Carlyle Group have seen the latest balance sheets and realized that paying $330 million for my music wasn’t exactly a wise choice and they need money.”
Taylor ended her rant by calling the move tasteless, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.
“In my opinion…just another cast of shameless greed in the time of Coronavirus. So tasteless, but very transparent.”
Scooter has not said anything on the matter just yet, but Taylor has explained that while the album was listed for a 2017 release, Spotify and iTunes currently have it listed under 2020.
Fans have taken matters into their own hands by urging people to give it a one star vote, making it less of a hit than the record company would have hoped.
