Shawn Mendes knows that there are a lot of rumours about his sexuality.
The 20-year-old singer has had a revealing cover interview with Rolling Stone, where things got deep and personal.
In the interview, Shawn explained that people’s assumptions about him being gay upsets him… quite a lot.
“In the back of my heart, I feel like I need to go be seen with someone — like a girl — in public, to prove to people that I’m not gay,” he explained. “Even though in my heart I know that it’s not a bad thing. There’s still a piece of me that thinks that. And I hate that side of me.”
In 2017 Shawn read comments on YouTube that assumed he was gay. At the time, he addressed the rumours on Snapchat. “I noticed a lot of people were saying I gave them a ‘gay vibe,’” he said. “First of all, I’m not gay. Second of all, it shouldn’t make a difference if I was or wasn’t.”
It’s true, Shawn’s sexuality is nobody’s business… but if he is taking the time to address it personally, it’s time to respect him.
