Abelena shippers are currently in mourning as Selena Gomez and The Weeknd have broken up, PEOPLE confirms.
“She and Abel have been going back and forth for a few months about their relationship,” an insider told the publication. “It’s been hard with him being on tour and her shooting in New York. That wasn’t easy on them.”
Selena has “always made an effort” to go on tour with her man but given her busy schedule, the pair would go months without seeing each other which took a toll on their relationship.
“That played a part in them getting distant,” adds the insider. “It’s over for now, but they’re still in touch.”
People‘s insider adds: “It’s been hard for them to come to the realisation that this is the direction things were heading, but it’s been hard for months.”
The shock announcement comes just days after Selena was spotted hanging out with ~controversial~ ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber.
The pair formerly known as Jelena recently started talking again after Selena’s kidney transplant and rekindled their ~friendship~.
Last week TMZ captured pics of Sel walking into her home 10 minutes after the Biebz arrived in his white G-Wagon.
Then on Sunday they were spotted grabbing coffee together, adding fuel to the rumours that the pair *might* be getting back together.
Shortly after these encounters, fans noticed that Abel unfollowed Selena’s mother Mandy Teefey and bestie Francia Raisa on Twitter which tipped people off to the fact that these two might be calling it quits V soon.
And they were right.
RIP Abelena, thanks for letting us believe that love is real (for 10 months, anyway).
