Abigail Breslin has bravely opened up about her painful past to shed light on Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
On Tuesday, the Scream Queens star took to Instagram to share a photo of a piece of paper that reads: “Consent II: You are not obligated to have sex with someone that you’re in a relationship with. Dating is not consent. Marriage is not consent.”
In her caption, Abigail revealed that she had been sexually assaulted by someone she knew, writing: “i knew my assailant. #SexualAssaultAwarenessMonth #breakthesilence”
Abigail, who is set to star as Baby in the upcoming TV remake Dirty Dancing, has since been ~flooded~ with love and support from fans on social media and she’s now thanked everyone on Twitter.
Abigail also sent some love back to her Dirty Dancing co-stars who applauded her bravery. Sarah Hyland, who plays Baby’s sister Lisa, tweeted “Proud of you Abs 😘 #BreakTheSilence,” while her onscreen mum Debra Messing wrote “I love you, Abbie. You’re strength and testimony means so much to too many. #voice”
