Chilling Aventures of Sabrina hasn’t even been on Netflix for a week, and it’s already being sued!
The Satanic Temple is suing the show, for using its copyrighted ‘goat-face’ design of the religion’s deity, and for portraying Satan as “something evil”, which they believe is a misrepresentation.
The show, if you haven’t been watching, follows the young teenage half-witch half-mortal as she navigates through high school and witchcraft school.
Lucien Greaves, the spokesperson, and co-founder for the Satanic Temple tweeted on Sunday that the organisation would be “taking legal action” against the show for “appropriating” its design to “promote their asinine Satanic Pani fiction.”
In a statement to Broadly, Lucien claims that nobody working on the series contact the Satanic Temple about the statue, and that “our answer, given how the image is portrayed in the show, would have been ‘no’.”

He says the Temple is fighting back not only because of the copyright infringement but because of the negative misrepresentation of Satan and Satanists in general. “One of the central missions of the Satanic Temple has been to fight back against witch-hunts and irrational mob panics,” he said.
He added that “as Satanists, we need to do all we can to fight back against negligent and harmful representations.” He says the show “could be considered defamatory”.
right now, they want the visual of the goat to be retracted. “I simply refuse to have our monument used in this way in perpetuity,” he said.
Netflix has yet to respond to the claims.
