While the 30-year-old started out modeling when she was just 15, her career aspirations before that revolved around sport.

“I was very much sport focused when I was young,” she told Girlfriend’s Beauty Boss podcast. “I grew up in Townsville in North Queensland and I did touch football [and] athletics.”

Rachael’s end goal was to eventually compete at the Olympics!

“My goal was to compete at the Olympics for long jump and 200m so I was training really hard for that,” she said.

Rach’s plans were changed after she discovered the world of modeling through a local competition.

“At 15 and a half, in the airport a gentleman approached me asking if I wanted to enter his local modeling competition and I remember looking down at my body in that point in time and I thought ‘You gotta be kidding me mate!’’ Rachael said.

“I had bruises, scratches, grass stains on my hips. I’d never really worn a pair of heels and I just thought ‘How long first is it going to take for all these things on my body to heal and second of all, makeup and shoes and dresses were not that familiar with me.’”

Despite her trepidation, Rachael decided to jump head first into the competition.

“I took the entry form home and I thought ‘Why not?’” she said. “I did it and they kept calling number 35, winner number 35 and no one was stepping forward and I looked down and I was number 35! I was lucky enough to win and from there I started taking on more jobs and found myself traveling around the world.”
