Apparently Pete cried to his mother after the engagement was called off.

This story comes from Us Weekly, which reports that he also made several jokes about his short-lived relationship with Ariana during his set. “It made me see how ugly people can get, and how cool people can be,” Pete said, according to the publication.

The pair started publicly dating in 2018, becoming engaged quickly after two weeks. However, things took a turn in October, when they broke up.

one month later, Ariana owned the break up by releasing the hit song, “Thank U, Next”, which Pete was initially worried about.

He mentioned the song during his NYE standup set, joking that Ariana was a “diabolical genius” for naming her exes in the song.

The song actually debuted on Saturday, November 3, only 30 minutes before Pete had to perform on SNL.

He told his friends at the time, “We all have to listen to this song and you all have to look at me. It’s gonna be rough.”

However, he actually thought that “Thank u, next” wasn’t as bad as he expected. “So I start playing it. And we’re all like, ‘Ehh … it’s okay.’ We’re like, ‘Okay, it’s not that bad,'” he reportedly said, according to Vulture.

We’re just happy to see Pete making jokes again.
