They were the couple we thought we’d see go all the way in Married At First Sight, but ever since their honeymoon came to an end, so did their chemistry.
WATCH: MAFS’ Cathy walks out on Josh
Cathy Evans and Josh Pihlak both decided to leave the show last week, going their separate ways. But was it just their miscommunication that got in between their marriage, or was it the fact that Cathy was allegedly cheating on Josh… with her ex!
A well-placed source has revealed to New Idea that Cathy was texting her ex throughout the experiment.
“Cathy was busted sending secret texts to her ex during filming! Josh caught her and questioned her about it but she downplayed it, saying, ‘I’m just keeping my options open.'”
Maybe this was the catalyst for their downfall, or maybe Cathy decided to open up her options after her many disagreements with Josh, after he constantly decided to air their dirty laundry in front of others, most frequently… his mother.
We saw Cathy berated by Josh’s mother twice on the show, which disturbingly made viewers come for Josh’s family, sending him death threats.
Josh’s mother Mandy even called Cathy an “Actress from hell,” in a scathing Facebook post.
Mandy responded to a fan: “She was a paid actress hunny, employed by producers.”
Another family member weighed in on the post, writing: “We did well to keep our gobs shut until now! Cathy is playing a victim! The tears, definitely trying to get on Home and Away. She’s playing her role well, sort of.”
Later, Josh slammed the show for how they edited his home visit episode.
“We are not meant to be using our social media and we’re meant to keep it hush-hush, but sometimes it is better to speak out. I knew going into this that it’d be highly edited, I was sweet with that. But watching back last night, what transpired and what actually happened is an absolute joke.”
The tradie went on: “I have always put my hand up when I have done something wrong but what really transpired at that lunch yesterday was a crock of sh*t. My main concern is the hate to my mum and little brother… It’s absolutely ridiculous.”
Josh continued with his rant, telling fans that whether they want to apply for the show for love or fame, they need to “seriously think” about the repercussions that may come with it.
“I just can’t stress enough to people who are thinking about trying out for this show… have a good hard think because when you sign that contract, any footage and audio can be spliced and cut up however they choose. It says in the fine print, ‘you may or may not be received in a positive light’ and me being naive, I thought, why not? It is so disappointing to see how they made that come across and how much they left out.”
“I will cop the slack but it’s not fair that my mum is copping it when it’s not true. I was happy with getting a bad edit, but when it gets personal like that and everyone’s receiving death threats, it’s a joke.”
