Like most celebs, Kim Kardashian often posts pics with random products on her Instagram to promote brands in exchange for dollar, dollar bills.
This is no surprise, as we said, most celebs do this! But it’s always implied that the star has actually tried and tested the prod that they’re endorsing and recommending to their legion of fans.
However, in a Keeping Up With The Kardashians deleted scene, Kim *accidentally* revealed that she doesn’t actually use most of the products she endorses.
In the clip, Kim is setting up a photo shoot for her Fit Tea advertisement deal. She tells her bestie Jonathan Cheban that endorsements are just “part of her job” and that “they don’t care [if I look into the camera] … they just want to see my face with the product.”
Despite the fact that Kim has previously advertised for Fit Tea and pretends that she’s tried the teas, the video reveals that she’s never tried the brand’s protein shake.
But the scheming sisters might soon be forced to fess up about their sponsored posts!
Truth in Advertising Inc. a non-profit organisation that’s “dedicated to empowering consumers to protect themselves and one another against false advertising and deceptive marketing,” is fighting to make the Kardashian-Jenner klan add “ad” to their paid social media posts so that their followers know that the girls have been paid to take the photo.
The company vowed to notify the Federal Trade Commission of the family’s errors unless the issues were “fully corrected.”
“As a matter of FTC law, an endorser cannot talk about her experience with a product if she hasn’t tried it,” Bonnie Patten, the executive director for Truth in Advertising Inc., told Page Six. “And if an endorser tries a product and thinks it’s terrible, she cannot then say the product is great.”
Meanwhile, Kim’s reps told news.com.au, “The scene you are referring to is the first time Kim tried their protein shake. She drinks the tea. It’s two different products.”
“Kim has been a loyal consumer of the tea. The episode referred to included footage of Kim trying their protein drink for the first time,” Farnaz Farjam, VP of Current Programming at Bunim Murray Productions, said. “The characterisation is false and misrepresentative.”
So basically, take everything you see on Kim’s Insta with a grain of salt (DUH!).
