Months ago, Kendall Jenner copped (as is still copping!) major backlash for featuring in a racially insensitive Pepsi ad.
After noticing the public’s outrage, Pepsi removed the ad completely but people were ~extremely~ disappointed that Kendall herself had not apologised for agreeing to work on the offensive commercial.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, her big sister Kim Kardashian revealed that Kendall was too devastated to speak about the incident publicly.
“We’re not perfect, but you see these things in the media, like Kendall and [her Pepsi ad], where I see her at home crying,” Kim said.
“But in the media she looks another way because she’s not addressing it. I’m just like, ‘This is wrong. You need to speak up.’ She was like, ‘I don’t ever want to show that footage of me crying.’ She was trying not to make excuses or be dramatic, but that was what she was going through at the time.”
Now, Kendall has *finally* shared her side of the story including why she agreed to appear in the ad and what went down after the backlash.
“When I first got this offer, I mean, it’s a huge company … the people I was following were so iconic and amazing….to get something like that, it was so exciting. And I trusted everyone, I trusted the teams. But after I saw the reaction and I read what people had to say about it, I most definitely saw what went wrong. I was so stuck and I really didn’t know what to do that I completely shut down.”
The star then bursts into tears as she adds:
“I would never purposely hurt someone, ever…if I knew that this was gonna be the outcome, I would have never done something like this. But you don’t know when you’re in the moment…I just felt so f***ing stupid. The fact that I would offend other people or hurt other people was definitely not the intent. And that’s what got me the most. Is that I would have ever made anyone else upset.”
While there are loads of people who probz won’t be accepting of Kenny’s apology, at least she’s actually addressed it. Finally!
