However, the young makeup artist has been well versed in cancel culture and how to handle it, so he’s made some extremely mature and valid points about other artists who get praised for doing something similar to him.

For example, the recent ‘mugshot challenge’ that James was involved in.

James Charles did some extremely realistic ‘mugshot’ makeup on himself which made it look like he had been brutally beaten up, and it didn’t sit well with fans who accused him of glamourising domestic violence.

“Black and brown people face disproportionate rates of incarceration, but yts are turning fake mugshot pic into a trend?” one fan tweeted.

“I’m sorry but this is NOT FUNNY OR CUTE!! As a SURVIVOR I WILL NOT ACCEPT THE MOCKING… The blatant disrespect of this trend is unacceptable!! I have went to bat for you time & time again but this is ENOUGH JAMES” another fan yelled.

However, it didn’t sit well with James, who went on to ask his fans why it was okay for artists like Billie Eilish and The Weeknd to use blood on their face and similar makeup techniques?

“Genuine question,” James began. “The Weeknd’s new album shows him bleeding, with a broken nose, and with bruises, yet I haven’t seen a single tweet about him glorifying violence or abuse? Can someone please explain how it’s any different I’m really trying to understand”

He also clarified that he wasn’t slamming The Weeknd or Billie.

“Love both of these artists SO MUCH, I’m just actually asking a question to have an open discussion.”

Thankfully, that urged his fans to defend him and call out the others for purposely looking for something to pick on with the young star, which has become pretty unfair.

“All I’m gonna say is if you’re gonna get mad at James Charles for doing the mugshot ‘trend’ you need to be mad at all the other influencers doing it too, with just as big of an audience. I know people come for James cause they think it’s cute but he isn’t the only one here…” one fan tweted.

Another made a great point: “Ya’ll need to stop projecting your trauma onto something COMPLETELY unrelated… it’s a mugshot challenge… you coulda got into a barfight, etc. Also blood/bruising in makeup has been a trend since the 90’s grunge era. Billie is a modern example!”

HARD facts right there!!
