Dua Lipa has apologised to fans, after they found a video from 2014 of the singer performing a cover song that includes the n-word.
Dua was covering Mila J’s single “Smoke, Drink, Break Up” as, Billboard reports, and during the it, she uses the n-word.
After the major backlash, Dua responded, apologising and explaining what happened.
According to her, she “wasn’t thinking it through at the time,” and said that although she “didn’t say the full word,” she can “admit I shouldn’t have gone there at all and that a different word could’ve been recorded altogether to avoid offence and confusion.”
In another tweet, she wrote, “I always stand up for social justice and I am very sorry to anyone that I have offended.”
Fans had some thoughts after her apology.
“Only just my opinion but I would rather someone own their mistake, learn and apologise like Dua Lipa did than to remain ignorant and defend what they did wrong,” one fan wrote.
