While chatting to the model, Demi got candid about her struggles with body image.

Demi has been incredibly open about her eating disorder in the past, however, she believes that her ‘recovery’ of extreme dieting and hardcore workouts was just a replacement.

“I’m tired of running myself into the ground with workouts and extreme dieting,” Demi said. “I thought the past few years was recovery from an eating disorder when it actually was just completely falling into it.”

“I think when you have certain people around you that are telling you certain things that you should look a certain way, it makes it harder,” she continued. “I was in that situation, and I was just running myself into the ground. I honestly think that’s kind of what led to everything happening over the past year was just me thinking I found recovery when I didn’t, and then living this kind of lie and trying to tell the world I was happy with myself when I really wasn’t.”

In the above photo, posted nearly one year ago, Demi wrote the following caption:

“Idk what to caption this.. reality is I’m sitting at the gym post jiu jitsu feeling high on life and drinking my post workout shake. I’m sweaty and not looking this glamorous right now but f*ck I feel awesome and posting this feels empowering because I like this pic where I feel sexy and I can also defend myself from anyone that ever tries to attack me. Any size, any shape, any gender. I have security but in the moments I’m alone I feel confident (no pun intended) that I can hold my own against an attacker and hope everyone finds something they become as passionate about as I feel about jiu jitsu.”

While chatting about her eating disorder, Demi also touched about her addiction struggles. In 2018 she released her song “Sober.”

Demi suffered from a near-fatal overdose on June 24, 2018. Since then, she stayed out of the limelight, until her major return at the 2020 Grammys in January, 2020.

“Thank you Ashley for allowing me to really open up about my faith, boundaries, my body acceptance journey, and what my future holds,” she wrote. “We had such an honest and real conversation… I can’t wait for you guys to watch and listen🙏🏻
