We were all SO stoked to learn that a Riverdale musical episode was in the works. The thought of Cole Sprouse belting out a few show tunes is the stuff that ~dreams~ are made of!
Well, we hate to break it to ya, but it turns out Jughead won’t be participating in Riverdale High’s production of Carrie: The Musical.
Riverdale’s executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa confirmed the tragic news at a recent press screening.
“Cole and I talked about it a while ago, and I said, ‘How do you feel about musicals?’” Roberto told reporters. “At that time, we were going to do Little Shop of Horrors. And he basically said, ‘Listen, I never sang for Disney. It would take a lot.'”
He went on to explain how Cole’s decision works well with Jughead’s character.
“When we really thought about the character of Jughead, he felt like the one character who probably wouldn’t be in the school musical… when you see the episode, he’s very much an integral part of it, and he’s doing something quintessentially Jughead during the musical. Except he doesn’t sing.”
WHY!?!?!?
