Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello just confirmed their split and yeah, love isn’t real.
Though the couple have said they still love each other – just not romantically – we can’t help but pine for the days when they used to gush about their romance.

We’re reliving some of their best moments, like when Camila shared a series of photos and a video of her popstar boyfriend in honour of his birthday in August.
She captioned the loved-up post in Spanish: “Happy birthday my love, thankful for your existence everyday”.
Naw, isn’t that a bit cute.
But while it was Camila who voiced her love for the musician that time around, Shawn was usually the one beaming over the relationship.
How long were Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello together?
For a little reminder of their relationship timeline, OG fans will remember their sweet friendship that started in 2014 when Camila was still a member of Fifth Harmony.
While staunch fans of the Lost In Japan singer were hoping the chemistry was purely platonic, there was no denying there was something more between them.
In November 2015, the duo released their first song together called I Know What You Did Last Summer, and it caused an eruption of intrigue.
However, the public was convinced that the two were just friends, and they even dated other people.
But everything changed in 2019 when they dropped their second song Señorita and released a steamy video, then the rumours began to swirl again.
The couple made their union official on the Fourth of July that year, which they spent together and packed on a lot of PDA.
After two years together, the couple sadly called it quits in November, announcing the news with a joint statement on Instagram.
“Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever ❤️” the statement read.
“We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward ❤️❤️❤️ Camila and Shawn.”
What has Shawn said about Camila?
Whenever he was asked about the Havana singer, Shawn just couldn’t stop gushing.
On tour in Malaysia in 2019, he revealed a lot about his relationship during a fan-led Q&A.
“Camila and I will basically wake up and find the nearest coffee we can find. She’ll have, basically, half a coffee, and I’ll have three,” he said.
He also revealed that they’re both big food lovers, and it’s pretty good when you have a boyfriend who has the same enthusiasm towards food as you.
The 23-year-old spilled, “We’re always in different countries and cities when we hang out with each other, so I don’t know what the– probably find some food and then we’d eat, and then like an hour later we’d be like, ‘are you hungry?’ and I’d be like yeah.”

However, the biggest reveal that will perk any girls’ ears was that Shawn actually likes when his GF takes the lead during conversations – is this man real?
“I don’t know. Camila is so good at coming up with random topics,” he said. “One time we were having dinner, and she pulled out this phone, and a list on this phone was like, ‘What would you do if it was the last day on Earth?'”

But for V Day 2020, Shawn flew across the pond to celebrate with Camila, who was filming her Cinderella remake in London.
They were also photographed kissing each other while on a romantic dinner, and Shawn amped up the romance by gifting Camila two bags of flowers and chocolates, which he was pictured carrying in London.
In October 2020, it was revealed in the Stitches singer’s Netflix documentary Wonder that every song he has EVER written is about Camilla – and yes! She had no idea.
He said, “‘Everything’s about you. They’re all, they have always been about you.’
“She goes, ‘What do you mean?’ Like, ‘They’re all about you. Like every song I’ve ever wrote.’”

For some reason, some boys struggle to admit how much they love their other halves openly, but as you have perhaps guessed, Shawn wasnot of that variety.
In an interview for Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in November 2020, the singer opened up about how loving Camila has changed him.

“A lot happens when you fall in love for the first time, because you really feel this support, this grounded, ‘Hey, if everything goes away, I’m going to be okay,'” said the performer.
“It’s perspective, and it’s beautiful. And it really allows you to be like, ‘OK, well, if I’m going to do this [make music, etc.], I might as well be doing it for the right reasons and really, really, really enjoying it.’ Otherwise, I’d just rather watch movies with you all day.”
Though they’ve broken up, we still view their beautiful relationship as total #CoupleGoals.
