If there’s one thing we love, it’s when on-screen couples take their romance off screen. From Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens (RIP Zanessa), and most recently, Madelyn Cline, 23, and Chase Stokes, 29, from Netflix’s Outer Banks.

The couple sent fans into a frenzy when they confirmed they were dating last year, posting each other on their socials and melting hearts in the process.
Recent rumours that the pair have called it quits devastated OBX fans around the globe, but a recent development suggests there may be hope for the couple after all.
Below, we’ve done a deep dive into Madelyn and Chase’s complete relationship timeline, including the recent clue that they may still be going strong.
June 2020
Chase skipped the Insta soft launch when he went public with his relationship with Madelyn.
Sharing an adorable snap of the couple’s beach date, the actor wrote: “cats outta the bag ❤️”, to which Madelyn replied: “I’ve fallen and I cant get up.”
November 2020
Madelyn spoke to Entertainment Tonight about her relationship with Chase, even dropping the L bomb in the process.
“The show coming out was already a pretty big life change, and we were also just starting the whole quarantine process, and that’s a huge life change and going through a global pandemic,” she said, explaining why she and Chase initially chose to keep a lid on things.
“I think we just wanted to kind of give it some time and enjoy it while it’s new and fresh and just kind of keep that to ourselves.”
The 23-year-old was then questioned as to whether she was in love, to which she said: “Yeah, it’s really cool. Love is tight. It’s cool to share this experience with your favourite people and also your favourite person…I feel very happy.”
February 2021
Now it was Chase’s turn to speak about the relatioship, telling US Weekly that during filming for Outer Banks, the pair were too focused on their work for any romance, and it wasn’t until filming wrapped that things started heating up.
“At that point in time, we were so anxious about the show and so nervous about constantly screwing up. I think we were all under this sort of strange umbrella of, like, ‘Dear God, we got an opportunity. Let’s not screw it up!’ So, it was just always work-oriented—really until the day we wrapped,” the 29-year-old told the publication.
“It wasn’t until after that, until we started to kind of get into the lockdown where we were like, ‘Is there something here or am I crazy?” That’s sort of where it bloomed from there. I think we were just so invested in the work.”
April 2021
Madelyn celebrated her and Chase’s one-year anniversary with a classic Insta tribute.
“Thanks for helping me keep track of my belongings for a whole year (: adore u,” Madelyn wrote alongside photos of the actor, including one with his dog 😍.
May 2021
A month later, the Outer Banks cast attended the MTV Movie & TV Awards, where Madelyn and Chase won “Best Kiss”.
As you can see by the Tweet above, they accepted the accolade in the most appropriate fashion, sharing a smooch on stage.
November 2021
Cut to November 2021 and the internet was distraught when People reported that Madelyn and Chase had broken up.
“Madelyn and Chase are no longer together,” a source close to the couple confirmed. “They were trying to work things out privately but broke up a couple of months ago.” Another source added, “They are definitely broken up.”
However, neither actor confirmed the rumours themselves. THEN, later that month they were spotted together in Atlanta, a sighting documented by Insta user Leonard Cole.
“Just ran into my favorite OBX couple … John B and Sarah (Maddie and Chase). Thanks for makin my night! So cool!” he wrote alongside a photo of the pair.
So, is there some hope after all for the Madelyn and Chase shippers? We guess we’ll have to wait and see.
