When it comes to online dating, it’s hard to do. But, it’s even harder when you’re a big name celebrity. First of all, people generally know who you are or already have a perception of you, and it’s hard to build an earnest and equal relationship from that. And, as Joey King and Sam Smith share, most apps don’t even think you’re the real deal.
Per ET Canada, in a virtual interview with Andy Cohen on his program, Watch What Happens Live, the pair discussed their dating app experiences.
“I’m still single,” said Smith. “I’m on the frontline with all the single people still and it’s been difficult.”
“I’ve gone on all the apps and stuff,” they told Cohen. “I took your advice. I joined this dating site called Hinge in the U.K. and they chucked me off of it after one night [be]cause they thought I was a catfish pretending to be me.”
“The same thing has happened to me on dating apps,” admitted Cohen, before recommending Smith join Tinder instead. “I have someone who can get you on there and verify you.”
For The Kissing Booth star Joey King, while she’s never been kicked off a dating app because of her identity, she’s definitely seen people impersonate her and steal her likeness online.
“By the way though, someone has used my face and photos as catfish for Tinder,” King said. “A friend of mine who was on Tinder sent me a screenshot of someone who was using my pictures.”
Imagine swiping away and then just coming across someone famous like Joey King or Sam Smith? W-I-L-D.
