Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich have split and called off their engagement after two months

The whirlwind half-year romance is over. 😥

Demi Lovato and her  fiancé Max Ehrich have officially split, after six months of a very passionate romance. The couple have called off their engagement, just two months after Ehrich proposed. The pair first began dating in March of this year, spending the early months of quarantine together.

“It was a tough decision, but Demi and Max have decided to go their separate ways to focus on their respective careers,” a source who is close to the couple explained to PEOPLE. “They have respect and love for one another and will always cherish the time they spent together.”

It’s a pretty sudden turn of events for the couple, especially as Lovato was even recently talking about her plans to elope with Ehrich and discussing what she’d be wearing on her wedding day. We’ve previously seen the couple being pretty insperable, watching Lovato’s old Disney films together and on cute romantic getaways.

The end of their relationship comes after a few wobbles though. Earlier this month, some drama arose when screenshots were surfaced that apparently showed Ehrich gushing over Selena Gomez on Twitter. While the tweets in question were dated prior to his relationship with Lovato, many people speculated they could cause a rift: Lovato and Gomez are famously no longer friends, after something of a ‘feud.’ Lovato dismissed the Tweets as fake, but sources close to the singer said she was quite hurt.

“She is head over heels for Max and doesn’t want to be heartbroken,” they explained. “She truly cares about Max and wants to think his intentions are genuine.”

Shortly after that, we got more info that claimed Lovato’s friends were worried about her and didn’t have good vibes from Ehrich. “People close to Demi have expressed that they are worried and are hesitant about Max,” the friend explained.

Lovato made some incredibly deep declarations of love when she and Ehrich first got engaged, saying, “I knew I loved you the moment I met you. It was something I can’t describe to anyone who hasn’t experienced it firsthand but luckily you did too.. I’ve never felt so unconditionally loved by someone in my life (other than my parents) flaws and all.”

The singer continued, “I love you more than a caption could express but I’m ecstatic to start a family and life with you. I love you forever my baby. My partner. Here’s to our future!!!!”

Neither Ehrich or Lovato have made any mentions of the split on their social media profiles yet. We hope they’re just taking the time to process and feel what they need to after the sudden split.
