Unless you’ve been living under a social media rock for the past few months, you defs will have noticed the #MeToo movement online that encourages survivors of sexual assault to speak out against their abusers.
Loads of celebs have had something to say about the movement, the latest being Bella Thorne who recently revealed that she, too, is a victim of sexual harassment.
In a new interview with People, the actress/singer said that she’s stoked with the movement but thinks that there’s more that can be done.
“Do I see that men are gonna be less abusive to women? In that aspect, I don’t know,” she said. “I love the hashtag, I love the fact that all these girls can feel like they have someone else to talk to. I think it’s amazing. But also we need to go one step further than that.”
“That’s one of those things I don’t love about social media,” she said. “Something can be a big deal at the time and then nothing happens. Nothing gets done except for the press and the hashtags and some of the comments. And then after that it’s like poof, where did that problem go? The problem is still there.”
She concludes: “There has to be something we can do to make some kind of real difference.”
