They even dragged Ed Sheeran into it.

BBC have come under scrutiny after they posted a ‘joke’ on April Fools. But nobody was really laughing…

The publication posted a photo of Ed Sheeran shaving off all his hair, which is in reference to the 2007 image of Britney Spears doing the same thing.

The original Britney photo was taken during a time that she was suffering from mental health issues, and BBC used it as a joke. The post has since been deleted, but Daily Mail report that the post read:

“Breaking news; Ed Sheeran has gone full 2007 Britney.”

Obviously, neither Ed or Britney ‘endorsed’ the photo.

The above Twitter user, Shane Telford, pointed out that BBC had previously announced that in 2017 they would be challenging the discrimination, and tackling the stigma of mental health… HOW hypocritical.

Britney has since recovered, and is a mother of two sons as well as a regular performer, but it’s not okay for anyone to make jokes about a serious time in her life.

Thankfully, people took to the comments section of BBC and dragged them for their ignorance.

“Mental health jokes just aren’t funny, and most of the top comments thankfully seem to have Britney’s back.”

“If it’s meant to be an April Fool’s joke it’s in extremely bad taste. Mental health is a serious topic that nobody should joke about.”

“Because taking the p*** out of mental health is funny, well done BBC.”
