A brief history of the fruit reveals that the word actually means ‘testicle’. Yep.

Avocado’s have been popular since about 500 BC, in Mesoamerica (Mexico and Central America). During that time, the area was filled with Nahuatl-speaking Aztecs. When they discovered the fruit, they called it āhuacatl, which directly translates to ‘testicle.’
