Ariel Winter has been pretty open about the tumultuous relationship with her now estranged mother, but boy she has never gone into this much detail about it before.
While chatting to The Hollywood Reporter, the young actress opened up about just how horrible it was when she was younger, still under her mother’s care.
She revealed that she wasn’t allowed to have other girl friends, “because females are competition – that’s how some people see it.”
She also said how food was “very, very restricted” when she first began performing.
When Ari was 14, she was placed by the courts in temporary custody of Shanelle Gray, her adult sister.
According to court documents, there was “slapping, hitting, pushing.” Yikes.
The same allegations were brought to an emergency guardianship hearing by her sister in 2012, People magazine reported.
At 15 Ariel emancipated herself, and admits that at age 7 she was already becoming sexualised. She says she was dressed in “the smallest miniskirts, sailor suits, low-cut things, the shortest dresses you’ve ever seen. People thought I was 24 when I was 12. If there was going to be a nude scene when I was that age, my mother would have a thousand percent said yes.”
In 2016, Ariels mother Crystal defended herself from her daughters allegations. In an interview with Inside Edition, she said, “I didn’t start this battle. I haven’t seen her in three and a half years.
“I don’t know why she is bringing this up. I think Ariel is conjuring up stories to help her career at my expense, and I feel as a parent I am being bullied…. I have stood by my innocence. I have never, never abused Ariel.”
Now, Ariel admits that she hasn’t spoken to her mother in five years. Read the entire article here.
