If you want to accuse Ariana Grande of auto-tune, you better be prepared for the scathing backlash from the pop star herself.

Ariana has built her career on her impeccable singing voice, with a four-octave vocal range that most singers dream of having, Ari wasn’t going to sit back quietly when a fan came at her for supposedly using autotune.

The comment came from a fan on Instagram, writing on a video of Ariana singing “Breathin'” on her Sweetener/Thank U Next tour.

“It sounds like autotune and probably not live. I mean you are a great singer and I love your voice and songs but this doesn’t sound live.”

Ohhh boy, was that the wrong thing to say to our mini Mariah Carey.

Ariana responded, quite harshly, but in a way that can only be respected knowing how seriously talented is.

“naw with all due respect, i could do this in your living room for you, fam. with no sound mixing or help at all. i could do it on broadway (and did). i can it in the shower. in the car. it’s my gift / it’s why i’m here. i sing 30+ songs a night. ☁️☁️☁️ every word. it’s my thing. let me shine like damn. 💛💛💛

As for the fan accusing her of autotune, we can’t really blame them. Ariana’s voice is that good that it is more believable to be autotuned than natural talent.

Sorry not sorry!

The fan’s comment was initially picked up by popular Instagram account @commentsbycelebs, who are frequently tracking comments made between celebrities on Instagram.

After posting this particular comment, the user is now asking the account to remove the post completely.

“Hi! Sorry guys but you are posting my name like laughing at me so I have to ask you for deleting this post and upload it without my name,” th wrote. “I wrote it and I still think I’m right about auto-tune. Probably she sang live there, but there is a effect in her voice and that’s a fact. I love her by the way but people don’t care about that, people don’t know me and insult me without knowledge and all because of being radical fans that hate people that don’t think the same of their idol. The worst part is I really love Ariana Grande so they are bullying another fan.”

Yikes.

As for Ari, she has recently updated her fans on the state of her mental health amidst this world tour she is currently on, especially after cancelling a meet and greet.

After cancelling the event in Antwerp, Belgium, she uploaded a lengthy Instagram post to let her fans know why. According to the Daily Mail, fans who bought passes received an email before the show on Friday which had the subject line: “A personal message from Ariana.”

“Hi my loves, time for some honesty. My anxiety and depression have been at an all time high lately. I have been giving you all I’ve got and trying to push through as hard as I can and mask it,” she wrote. “Today has been an extra rough one. After a handful of panic attacks I feel like the wisest decision would be not to do soundcheck party or m&g today and preserve me energy for the show. I don’t want to rush through our time together or seem shaky. I like spending actual time with you and I won’t be able to be present or give you the best of me today. I wish I could control these attacks but as anyone with anxiety or depression understands, sometimes you can only operate on its terms and not your own. Anybody that had m&g or soundcheck today will of course be fully reimbursed for this decision. I love you. I’m so sorry. I promise I will absolutely give you the best show I can.”

Grande has spoken quite candidly in the past about her mental health struggles, always keeping her fans in the loop with how she is coping from the significant amount of trauma and personal battles she has faced.

In an Instagram post on July 7, Ariana explained further: “I feel everything very intensely and have committed to doing this tour during a time in my life when I’m still processing a lot … so sometimes I cry a lot!” she explained. “I thank you for accepting my humanness.

“I’m not sure what I did to deserve to meet so many loving souls every night / to feel so much love, but I want you to know that it really does carry me through,” she added. “I feel it and I appreciate it. And all of you so so much.”
