Ariana Grande breaks down in her first interview about the Manchester attack

Almost one year later.

It’s been almost a whole year since a terrorist bomber attacked, and killed 22 people during an Ariana Grande show in Manchester.

After the attack, Ariana gave back by holding a benefit concert, raising money for the families in need. Since then, she’s been keeping a pretty low-profile, until now, as she’s releasing her new album Sweetener.

Ari has already released the first single from the album, “No Tears Left To Cry”, which centres around the heartache she’s endured since the horrific attack.

She’s also opening up about the entire experience.

Talking to Time magazine’s for their Next Generation Leaders issue, she was overcome with emotion. The author of the article writes, “She begins to cry — not graceful tears, but deep, choking sobs.”

“There are so many people who have suffered such loss and pain,” Ari says through tears. “The processing part is going to take forever…”

She doesn’t finish her sentence, but she says she doesn’t want to talk about the attack.

She explains, “I don’t want to give it that much power, something so negative. It’s the absolute worst of humanity. That’s why I did my best to react the way I did. The last thing I would ever want is for my fans to see something like that happen and think it won.”

“Music is supposed to be the safest thing in the world,” she continues. “I think that’s why it’s still so heavy on my heart every single day. I wish there was more that I could fix. You think with time it’ll become easier to talk about. Or you’ll make peace with it. But every day I wait for that peace to come and it’s still very painful.”

She also explains how her new song is about getting back on her feet.

“When I started to take care of myself more, then came balance, and freedom, and joy; it poured out into the music. We’ve messed with the idea of not being able to find the ground again, because I feel like I’m finally landing back on my feet now.”
