Police officers approached the actor after he was noticeably struggling to keep his balance while walking through the streets of San Diego.
The officers reportedly told Teller that he could go and sleep it off at one of California's detox centres but the star refused to listen to his instructions.
“He was taken to the detox centre where he was uncooperative and the staff rejected him. He was then arrested and transported to the local jail where he was booked,” Billy Hernandez, a spokesperson for the San Diego Police Department, told PEOPLE.
After refusing to cooperate with law enforcement, the Fantastic Four actor was arrested for public intoxication and locked in jail.
It has been confirmed that the star has since been released.
