When is the 2021 Met Gala?
Monday, September 13th. Of course, that means Tuesday 14th for those of us in Australia.
Usually, the Met Gala is held on the first Monday of May, but COVID delayed the annual event.
Who are the 2021 Met Gala co-chairs?
No it’s not Harry Styles again, sadly. This year’s co-chairs are musician Billie Eilish, actor Timothée Chalamet, poet and activist Amanda Gorman and tennis player Naomi Osaka. What a line-up.
There are also honourary chairs which include American fashion designer Tom Ford, Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, and the head of Instagram Adam Mosseri.
What is the 2021 Met Gala theme?
In what has been an extremely patriotic decision, this year’s theme is “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”.
According to the museum, guests are to “explore a modern vocabulary of American fashion”.
Can’t exactly imagine Australia doing the same. Just image Chris Hemsworth rocking up to a museum in boardies and a pair of thongs.
Who’s attending the 2021 Met Gala?
Just like Gossip Girl, that’s one secret the Met will never tell... at least, prior to the event. This list is very exclusive and secretive, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
However, in devastating news, fashion icon herself Zendaya recently confirmed she will not be attending as she is filming for her show Euphoria. And, honestly, what’s the point of the Met even going ahead without her?
Are TikTokers really going to be there?
In case you missed it, someone who must have been feeling slightly chaotic spread a fake seating plan for the Met Gala. It had a bunch of TikTok stars seated next to A-Listers, for example He’s All That star Addison Rae was placed opposite Beyoncé.
It caused a ton of backlash as people questioned whether the TikTok dancer and Bey were… um… on the same level.
To clear things up, the chart was completely fake. So there will be no Bey and Addison swapping industry stories just yet.
Is the 2021 Met Gala different because of the pandemic?
Yes, there have been some restrictions put in to ensure the safety of everyone attending. Guests above the age of 12 must be vaccinated and wear masks while indoors, according to People.
“Currently, all attendees… must provide proof of full vaccination and will also be expected to wear masks indoors except while eating or drinking,” a spokesperson for The Met told the publication.
How can I watch the 2021 Met Gala?
OK so you may not be invited this year (keep dreaming though bestie!!), but you can watch the glitz and glam via Vogue’s Twitter livestream which will include access to the red carpet and interviews with the guests.
It is to be hosted by actresses KeKe Palmer and Ilana Glazer… so it already sounds iconic. And it will stream on September 13th at 5:30 p.m. EST. That is Tuesday September 14th 7:30 a.m. AEST.
See y’all there… virtually.
