Sources have revealed to New Idea that the 32-year-old astrophysicist was about to pull "A Honey Badger", but was forced to pick a winner.
After choosing Chelsie over Abbie Chatfield, the pair suspiciously broke up two months after the finale's airdate.
According to reports, there was a clause in his contract that required him to choose a winner after the debacle that was last year's season with Nick 'The Honey Badger' Cummins.
"He wanted to choose no one but obviously it was in his contract that he had to choose someone, so producers pushed him to pick Chelsie because she was the safe bet," a source told New Idea.
"If it happened two years in a row, the whole franchise would be done."
The source added: "He was made to keep the act up and do the required media rounds with Chelsie until Angie's season [of The Bachelorette] had finished airing."
Everyone remembers Nick Cummins' breaking the hearts of his two beautiful finalists, Brittany Hockley and Sophie Tieman.
After the shocking finale, the girls became really good friends, similarly to Chelsie's friendships with some of the Bachelor contestants from her season.
After the pair announced their split earlier this month, Chelsie has been making incredibly pointed comments on Instagram, supported by Rachael Arahill, who was on the show with her.
In one very suspicious post, Chelsie hinted that Matt actually cheated on her.
It all started when Chelsie commented on her Bachelor co-star Jessica Brody's Instagram photo where she's holding a rose.
"Me ➡️vs.➡️ Me when he tells me I’m the only girl he’s talking to🌹" read the caption.
Chelsie commented on the photo with a VERY pointed statement: "triggeredddddd'.
Adding fuel to the fire, Rachel Arahill replied: "@chelsiemcleod Bahaha haahahha when u can finally say triggred as well. ytg"
Chelsie responded: "@rachaelarahill triggered is an understatement tbf."
Responding to these 'contract' reports, a Channel Ten spokesperson told The Daily Mail on Monday that: "Matt was not contractually obliged to choose a winner. This claim is completely false."
