Now, three years later, and people are still thirsty for more.
That's why Netflix are releasing part 2 of the show, which will continue to follow Steven, his co-defendant and nephew, Brendan Dassey, as well as their families and legal teams.
A press release claims that the second part "provides an in-depth look at the high-stakes postconviction process, exploring the emotional toll the process takes on all involved"
Part 1 of the show documented the experience Steven Avery had with being accused of the sexual assault and attempted murder of Penny Beerntsen in 1985, which he served 18 years in prison for, before being exonerated by DNA evidence.
The show then followed the murder of Teresa Halbach, for which Avery was convicted of in 2007. Part 2 shows viewers "the experience of the convicted and imprisoned," depicting "two men each serving life sentences for crimes they maintain they did not commit."
Making A Murderer Part 2 premieres October 19.
