Special agents from the DEA Fusion Task Force arrested the alleged dealer, with him expected to make his first court appearance in District Court in Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon.
The charges he faces are one count of distribution of a controlled substance.
“While the death of any victim of the opioid epidemic is tragic, today’s arrest is another success for the DEA’s HIDTA Fusion Task Force,” Agent Daniel C. Comeaux with DEA’s Los Angeles division said in a statement.
“Let our message be clear, if you peddle illegal drugs and kill someone, the DEA will be the voice of the victim. We will not rest until you face the justice system.”
According to the NYC Department of Health, Opioid overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the United States.
Following Mac Miller's death in 2018, his family released a statement thanking everyone for their support and "prayers".
“Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26,” they said in a statement provided to multiple outlets. “He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time.”
Since then, Miller's famous ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande has spent the better part of a year paying tribute to the late star.
In a recent performance for her Sweetener/Thank U Next tour in his hometown of Pittsburgh in June, Ariana cried through a song where she mentioned his name.
