Perry sadly died less than a week after suffering a massive stroke, and the Riverdale production and set was shut down as the cast members and crew mourned his loss.
A statement from the show's executive producers read:
"We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all.
"A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke’s family during this most difficult time."
As Perry was still filming for Riverdale season 3, he will likely be seen in more episodes this season. However, it is unlikely he filmed all of his scenes. So how will Riverdale explain Luke Perry's death?
Will Riverdale re-cast Fred Andrews?
Because Perry's character Fred was so loved by fans and his co-stars, it is very unlikely that Riverdale will cast a new actor to play the father of Archie.
Will Riverdale kill off Fred Andrews?
It is a possibility that Fred Andrews may also die in the show, and we will see the characters mourn his loss. With this being the world of Riverdale, the show's writers have many options. Fred Andrews' death could be caused by Hiram Lodge, the Gargoyle King or simply natural causes.
Or he could get sick of the town's bad luck and simply decide to move.
Riverdale seasons 1 to 3 are now streaming on Netflix
