Whether you’ve just failed your English exam, got your period, or you’ve
tripped over in front of your crush and are still dealing with the
humiliation, crying is the most common go-to reaction for girls – and
that’s totally a-OK!
One: It’s a mood booster
Anyone who says they don’t feel better after a cry is either lying or
not human. The one thing those anti-crying robots are missing out
on by not crying is the health benefits that come with unleashing
the waterworks every now and then. According to Dr Ginni
Mansberg, crying is the first step to feeling better about the reason
why you’re crying. In certain situations it can completely change
your mood and, like a cleanse, once you’ve finished crying your
problems are forgotten. For the more traumatic situations, a good
cry can be cathartic and help you get your unhappy feelings out for
the moment rather than collecting all your troubles inside.
Two: Relieve stress and have a cry
What do crying and exercising have in common? They both relieve
stress. So having a cry helps you to remove the toxic chemicals in
your body that contribute to stress. Stopping yourself from crying
only increases your stress levels!
Three: Crying kills bacteria
Tears aren’t just your eyes inconveniently leaking and ruining your
make-up, they’re also protecting your body from those evil germs
that find their way into our bodies. Yay for tears!
When crying isn’t so good for you
If you find yourself crying more often than not it could be a sign of a
more serious condition such as depression. If you’re concerned, visit
your GP for more info.
