See those faces Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid are pulling above? Some might call that RBF (Resting Bi-atch Face) but it’s actually less than that; it’s the ‘Not Face’. The almost expressionless expression that conveys ~slight~ anger is taking Instagram by storm!
The duck face was so 2014, and you’ll have seen the not face on catwalks around the world, in fact you’re probably doing the not face without even trying… that’s kinda the point. And it’s EVERYWHERE on Instagram!!! A research team at Ohio State University have identified this particular expression as meaning: “I do not agree.” It consists of: a furrowed brow, pressed lips, and a raised chin. And A LOT of celebs do it…
Mild annoyance is the one message you get from it right? It’s the embodiment of “I can’t”. Interestingly enough, it’s a universal thing! A study published in the journal Cognition found that the look is the exact same for native speakers of English, Spanish, Mandarin, and sign language users! The study also found that signers used the not face in place of actually signing the word “not.” MIND BLOWN.
